This whole story brings up some exciting arguments about freedom, culture, political correctness & state control. The article has a poll on it asking "Do you think it's appropriate to name a child after Adolf Hitler?" Of course it's not appropriate, it goes against polite society, however, the real question isn't about appropriate, but about legality & how other people respond to socially questionable activity. This is not unlike the whole issue around early Punk bands wearing Nazi gear & how somehow this was singled out as being especially inappropriate, while the whole point of Punk was to be obnoxious. Of course, Punk was channeled very early on into radical socialist ideology & has not escaped that trap, regardless of the humorous parallel to Nazi Germany. All this said, i think all kids should be given relatively normal names for their country & if they find themselves treading the wild world of weirdness, go ahead & give yourself a crazy name & go for it.

Kids With Nazi Names Taken From Home

HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Jan. 14) - Three New Jersey siblings whose names have Nazi connotations have been placed in the custody of the state, police said. The children, ranging in age from 3 to under 1, were removed from their home Friday. They drew attention last month when a supermarket bakery refused to put the name of the oldest — Adolf Hitler Campbell — on a birthday cake. State workers didn't tell police why the children were taken, police Sgt. John Harris said. A family court hearing is scheduled for Thursday. The other two children, both girls, are JoyceLynn Aryan Nation Campbell and Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie Campbell.
