Downfall 2007 - 'Abe'-rration

From the flickr page. "Someone in Hanno has a sense of humour, for this looks unnervingly like another 'great' figure in World politics from not so long ago.

There aren't many westerners in Hanno so I guess even the native population are getting worried at the rampant 'Nationalist' sentiment around these parts... which has spawned full WWII uniform 'banzai' parades in nearby Tokorozawa, and an increase in racist insults and spitting for which I can personally vouch... but unlike the West, 'outsiders' such as myself are fair game with no laws to protect us."

Hitler's Jewish Soldiers

This photo of "half-Jew" Werner Goldberg, who was blond and blue-eyed, was used by a Nazi propaganda newspaper for its title page. Its caption: "The Ideal German Soldier."
I just came across what looks like an interesting book called "Hitler's Jewish Soldiers" by Brian Mark Rigg. Here's from its publicity page. "On the murderous road to "racial purity" Hitler encountered unexpected detours, largely due to his own crazed views and inconsistent policies regarding Jewish identity. After centuries of Jewish assimilation and intermarriage in German society, he discovered that eliminating Jews from the rest of the population was more difficult than he'd anticipated. As Bryan Mark Rigg shows in this provocative new study, nowhere was that heinous process more fraught with contradiction and confusion than in the German military." I have had the overwhelming feeling that the actual history of Germany during WWI & WWII is so clouded with the interests of using history as propaganda & the fact that so many of the powers in play are still very active, that it is very difficult to get a clear bead on what actually happened. The taboo nature of Nazi Germany in the west is just one layer of obfuscation making it difficult to know the truth. Add on the taboo nature of discussing the role of Jews in the world & that many presently existing interests try to hide that they were corroborators with the Nazis during the war & there's just alot of murk & confusion about the whole issue.

Bruno Ganz, you're no Hitler!

We finally got around to watching Downfall, the movie which is the source of the "Hitler is angry about _____" scene so often parodied on the internet.

It's an all right movie, with great action sequences in the outdoors shots of Berlin being bombed, and most of the scenes inside the bunker have a very claustrophobic feeling to them. But for the most part, it failed to capture my attention.

The worst part of the movie is Ganz, who doesn't feel like Hitler in the least. Poking around online, it looks like everyone lauded his performance as the broken-down shell of a man at the end of his life, but it just felt wrong. But this problem does not seem unique to this film. Surprisingly, I can't recall ANY actor who has played Hitler well. It must be the taboo nature of the character (or possibly a curse from Hitler's ghost?). I would expect the role would be a wonderful challenge for any actor worth his salt, but I suspect the taboo nature of doing a good job portraying Hitler has made anyone capable of playing him well shy away from the role.

Lewis Black on Glenn Beck's One Degree of Hitler

This is amazing. I miss so much by not watching TV. Glenn Beck is doing great setting up the right for years of failure as he emulates the loser left post-Carter.

Notice that he borrows my "You're No Hitler" joke.

Spongebob feat. Göbbels (und 'Der Führer')

If this was animated using bootleg versions of the characters & maybe throwing in some other characters like Robocop & Hordak, it would BE THE ZEITGEIST of 2010!

Hitler 'did not shoot himself'

All this attention to the inconsistencies in Hitler's death make me feel like they are going to reveal some kind of major news about Hitler escaping & living in Bolivia soon.
Russia's top KGB archivist has claimed Adolf Hitler poisoned himself rather than committing suicide with a gun in the manner of a "soldier".
By Andrew Osborn in Moscow from the London Telegraph
Lieutenant-General Vasily Khristoforov, the top archivist for Russia's FSB security service, said Soviet military medics at the time were only able to determine that Hitler and his mistress Eva Braun had died after ingesting cyanide on April 30, 1945.
He said the "myth" that Hitler died an honourable death by simultaneously shooting himself in the head as he took a cyanide capsule appeared wide of the mark. "The presence of the remains of crushed glass capsules in the mouth and the sharp odour of bitter almonds from the corpses, and the results of an internal post-mortem led the (Soviet) commission to conclude that it was death by cyanide poisoning," he said.
"Thus the myth put about by those Nazis left in Berlin that 'the Fuhrer died like a soldier having shot himself in his bunker' was shattered." Soviet medics found no serious wounds on Hitler's heavily burned body either, he added. If accurate, Lt-General Khristoforov's account casts doubt on the widely accepted version of how Hitler died. It also raises questions over the authenticity of a skull fragment kept in Russia's state archive that purportedly belonged to Hitler. The fragment has a bullet hole in it yet American researchers claim that DNA testing of the skull has shown it belonged to a woman aged from 20 to 40 and could not be Hitler's. The Russians have defended the skull's authenticity but have not offered their own DNA proof and this latest pronouncement appears to reinforce the idea that the skull is not Hitler's.

The Cross of Honor of the German Mother (German: Ehrenkreuz der deutschen Mutter or more colloquially Mutterkreuz), but often referred to simply as the Mothers Cross, was an award of the Nazi regime. This award was instituted on 16 December 1938 as part of Hitler's initiative to encourage Aryan population growth. Only women of German origin qualified for such awards, though women from absorbed Germanic countries and areas (such as Austria, the Sudetenland and Danzig) were also eligible. A mother could be awarded a bronze, silver, or gold cross depending on the number of children she had borne. Eight or more would entitle the woman to a gold cross, six to seven for silver, and four to five for bronze. The medal was not a permanent award, as mothers stood to be stripped of the Mother's Cross if they proved themselves unworthy through neglect of their children, marital infidelity, or any other social offense. The crosses were awarded annually on the second Sunday in May (Mothering Sunday or Mother's Day), so despite it's institution in 1938, the first awards were rendered in May 1939. The last awards were presented in 1944. The first woman to receive the Cross of Honor of the German Mother was Magda Goebbels, the wife of Nazi Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels. The couple had six children, and Madga was awarded the Silver Medal.

Nazitübbies - Vuffelivov (episode 3)

From the danish satiric talkshow "Den 11. Time" (The llth Hour), with Mikael Bertelsen and co-host Mads Brügger.

Mads' brother-in-law thoughtthat teletubbies is how the world would be like, if the Nazi´s had won the war.

The live in a organic world with ethnic and uniformed citizens, and no conflicts.
Besides that, they live in a bunker and shows TV from there stomach.

Mads Brügger wanted to make Teletubbies, as the Nazi's would have produced it.

Becoming Adolf

A Vanity Fair Article in which the (Jewish) author dons a toothbrush moustache to see how it feels, and explores the history of Hitler's facial hair along the way.

"I cut my beard on a Friday. I did what everyone who has ever cut a full beard does: I took it through every configuration. Like passing over the stages of man, or watching cultures rise and fall until the face of Hitler emerged. I went to the closet. What would the Führer wear on a sunny day? It does not matter, I decided. Because I am Hitler—whatever I wear, Hitler is wearing. A dozen Hitlers passed through my mind: Hitler in a sport coat; Hitler in a lab coat. Hitler in a Speedo; Hitler in a Camaro. I shook myself and said, "Get it together, Hitler—you're losing your mind!"

"I went out. In the street, some people looked at me, but most looked away. A few people said things after I passed. One man gave me a kind of Heil, but it was lackadaisical, and I am fairly certain he was being ironic. (People can be so mean!) Even friends said nothing until I asked, or else acted embarrassed for me. A woman said, "I think you were more handsome without the mustache." I had been worried someone might try to hurt me. I imagined toughs from the Jewish Defense League attacking with throwing stars—Jewish throwing stars! But it turns out, when you shave like Hitler, you follow the same rule you follow with bees: They're more scared of you than you are of them. Because either you really are Hitler, or you're a nut. So people do with little Hitlers what people always do with lunatics in New York, the harmless or dangerous—they ignore, they avert, they move away. If you want to fly coach without being hassled, grow a Toothbrush mustache."

Mayday and the Nazis

"Mayday has traditions dating back centuries to pagan rituals. In much of 20th century Europe, the holiday became a "Labor Day" in honor of workers, and promoted by Labor Unions. Celebrations of May Day were akin to our celebrations of Christmas, while the origins of the holiday are purported to be the Nativity [this is actually incorrect]; the celebration is mixed with paganistic emblems and practices which also have lost contemporary meaning.

"The Nazis wished however to replace both the liturgical Christian and Secular Calendar events with their own commemorative days, based on 'solar' calendars associated with pagan worship. This meant the re-introduction of such days as Beltane, or Mayday which indicated fertility rites and 'renewal' and went handily along Nazi promotion of the promotion of large German-Aryan families even giving out interest-free loans to new married couples which would become grants which did not have to be repaid upon the birth of enough children."

Also, information about the maypole and its importance to the Nazis.
